The Ineffable Beauty of Transient Moments: An attempt to document the Ephemeral Nature of snowboarding, its intricacies, and feelings - 2023
Silkscreen prints on recycled cotton rag paper. Inkjet prints on archival paper.
Working with Photography and Silkscreen allows me to incorporate some of the similarities that are shared between the mediums and the places I travel. Silk screen prints are built up in layers. Similarly, the snowpack is created in layers, these layers build up and can vary in strength and stability. When shooting photographs, I am able to capture great detail and human movement. Traveling through snow covered landscapes, details and movements are things that need to be carefully considered as a mistake can be consequential. Working with these mediums also gives me the ability to create silk screen prints by sourcing material from photographs. Each silk screen print is a “collage” of photographs that come together to form a unique feeling of the memories from that trip. Being able to bring in these elements allows for a deeper connection and meaning to the work I am creating.
I aim to create work that captures the complexities of snowboarding; the feelings, the challenges, and what it has given to me, in hopes that I can inspire others to get lost in something that they find challenging, terrifying, but beautiful.
